Hallstatt is a lovely little town in the lake district of Austria — the Salzkammergut. It occupies a narrow strip of land between the steep mountainsides and a large lake called the Hallstattersee.
Here’s another panorama of the Austria Center Vienna, the venue of this year’s ECOC conference. The shots for this image were taken from the top of the TV tower in the neighboring Donaupark, on which I went up during one of the lunch breaks. Unfortunately, that day was crazy hazy, so everything further away than maybe half a kilometer only shows up as white noise. Since downtown was much farther away than that, the panoramas in that direction are not really that interesting…
Technical note: stitched from 3 portrait shots, nothing fancy this time.

With its sea-front promenade, fine museums and sunny coastline, Nice is the enjoyable, big-city highlight of the Riviera. Much loved for its blues seas and blue skies, since the Nineteenth Century, Nice is the place for Europeans to socialize, gamble and escape the dreary weather. "THE masterminds of a £1billion drugs cartel are behind bars today.
They were jailed after police smashed Britain’s biggest international trafficking gang involving up to 60 people from five different nationalities.
Detectives today revealed astonishing details of the intricate planning which allowed tonnes of cocaine to be smuggled into Britain and how 1,000 Colombians were used to launder hundreds of millions of pounds in cash.
Drugs were smuggled into Britain hidden in fruit or dissolved into liquid form and engrained into clothing or plastic. Often it was brought in by the lorry load, packed into pallets and covered in mustard to disguise the smell from sniffer dogs.
It was then distributed to every major British city. Such was the cartel’s influence that when it was smashed, the price of cocaine on the streets shot up by 50 per cent.
The profits were taken out of Britain using thousands of Colombians who were sent the money in sums of up to Pounds 500 a time. Other methods of taking the cash back included couriers who swallowed condoms stuffed with 100 Euro notes. Up to Pounds 125,000 a-week was transported in this way.
…
The so-called charity, the Colombian Appeal Fund, was to the extent that a number of orphans were living in its premises in Colombia and police did not seize it.
The pair ran the money laundering scam through two unlikely businesses – the scruffy La Gran Colombia cafe and money-transfer business in Holloway Road and another money transfer firm, T and C Latin American Services in Brixton."
"This is a fantastic place to go if you fancy true Portugese culture. The bar area provides traditional atmosphere, with great snacks, football on tv and the always- present smokers!! The restaurant at the back continues the feeling although set out with lots of tables (big parties provided for) and less smoky. The wine list hosts quite a variety, the vinho verde being a favourite of mine. The food menu always has specials but you can’t go to O Cantinho without trying Bacalhau (salt cod). It is cooked in many ways, often with onions, tomatoes and potatoes. Don’t fill yourself up on bread beforehand as the portions are extremely generous (i have yet to eat a whole portion!!). Value for money is excellent and the service friendly. I would recommend you try it out as after taking most friends there I have only been asked to take them back!! Happy eating…"
